Waste Tour at Potato Head
If you’re looking for something unique (and free!) to do with the kids in Bali, the Waste Tour at Potato Head is an absolute must.
Hosted at The Womb; Potato Head’s bamboo entrance that now houses their Waste Centre. This tour gives families a behind-the-scenes look at one of Bali’s most innovative sustainability programs. It’s a fun and educational way for kids to learn about recycling, up-cycling, and the importance of looking after our planet.
Potato Head began its waste journey in 2017, starting with the simple act of sorting waste on-site. Back then, 50% of their waste went to landfill. Today, thanks to their incredible systems, they’ve reduced that number to just 3% ....all while running a massive hotel, beach club, and restaurants. It's impressive!
On the tour, you’ll follow the journey of waste through the venue: from sorting and processing to being turned into things like furniture, guest gifts, and even art installations. Kids will love hearing how oyster shells become furniture, cooking oil powers the Green School bus, and flip-flops from Bali’s beaches are turned into colourful art like the giant flip-flop mural made from over 5,000 thong soles!
The tour runs daily at 11 am, lasts around an hour, and finishes with a hands-on up-cycling workshop, where kids can create their crafty souvenirs to take home. It’s completely free, open to all ages, and a perfect way to sneak in a little learning while still having fun.
This is easily one of the most meaningful and inspiring family-friendly experiences you’ll find in Bali and it won’t cost a cent!
Where: Jalan Petitenget, No.51B, Seminyak
Cost: It's FREE, but you must book ahead Here via the Potato Head website to secure your spot.

Making Traditional Hindu Offerings
Kids learning to make a traditional offering with Saudara Villa staff
One of the most beautiful (and free!) cultural experiences you can share with your kids in Bali is learning how to make a Canang Sari; the small, colourful daily offerings you’ll see all over sidewalks, doorways, temples, and shops.
At our villa, this is a favourite activity for little guests. Our staff make these offerings each day, and they’re always happy to include kids in the process. The offering is made using palm or banana leaves, and filled with things like flowers, oils, salt, rice, money, or even cookies and each item having symbolic meaning.
Balinese offerings are not only beautiful but are part of a deeper belief in living in harmony: inviting in the good and calming the bad. That’s why you’ll spot them at key locations like doorways, crossroads, or even beaches.
It’s a lovely opportunity for kids to connect with Balinese culture through creativity. They get to fold, arrange, and fill their own Canang Sari, learning about the meanings behind each element. Plus, Balinese women are always happy to explain and share the tradition if you stop and ask.
Tip: If you’re staying at a villa, ask the staff to involve your kids in their daily offerings—it’s something they’ll remember forever.
